Shawl or scarf, shimmering like mermaid scales in the moonlight. A fine stripe of mother-of-pearl silk anchors the edge. Fine, long fringe echoes the sinuous sea plants waving in tide pools.

Woven in an undulating parallel twill inspired by Echo and Iris. 99% tencel (rayon made from eucalyptus chips), 1% silk. 63 x 14 inches, plus 6-inch fringe.

Handwash cold, lay flat to dry. If you want, you can press it with a hot, dry iron.

testing

This scarf was a hard one to choose the right weft. I loved the fabric from the Peachy Keen silk (the strip above the black hem-stitching), but not the color for a whole shawl. Although, for a wedding shawl … hm. The Turquoise stripe at top might have yielded a beautiful scarf, too. But I loved the way the Royal (middle stripe) showed the undulating twill design. So, that’s what the final scarf was.

That bottom pink stripe? That’s the bit of fabric I weave to get the threads settled in and work out the beat to get the right density of fabric. Each piece has it’s own challenges and temperaments.
