Then they rested overnight, and then they were rinsed and set in vinegar (to adjust the pH). The really fun part will be opening up each tester to see how the dye took! I did a lot of sampling for both of the sari scarves. No doubt there will be more sari-inspired scarves to weave - I love the colors and the fibers - ultra-fine cotton and soft silk. Sublime. But there are considerations of color and pattern, and this is the way I usually work out my samples. This shimmer of the Rainy Day silk - that shimmering off-white - really inspired me for this particular scarf. I hand stitch a hem along a couple of weft threads, catching the long warp threads. Then, the ends have to be twisted into the final long, round fringes before the piece is washed. I loved the fabric from the Peachy Keen silk (the strip above the black hem-stitching), but not the color for a whole shawl. Although, for a wedding shawl … hm. The Turquoise stripe at top might have yielded a beautiful scarf, too. But I loved the way the Royal (middle stripe) showed the undulating twill design. So, that’s what the final scarf was. That bottom pink stripe? That’s the bit of fabric I weave to get the threads settled in and work out the beat to get the right density of fabric. Each long warp thread has to be measured out and organized into the pattern you’ll see in your cloth.
